My work so far is rather about suburban spaces – the interaction between natural and man made structures, how light and shadow ‘shape’ and change things. Now, the workshop was about working with models and portraits – an exciting venture into somewhat new areas to me. So, the series you’re seeing reflects the exploration of portraiture during the workshop – it’s a diary of the workshop, reflecting experiments and new ideas and the work with different models.
My name is Wolfgang Arnold, I’m living in a town next to Düsseldorf, Germany. While my main occupation is in a telecom and technology company, I’m also father of two and – last but not least, an avid amateur photographer – besides working on my own topics I’m also supporting our local church with photos for their homepage and regular printed newsletters.
My interest in photography was sparked by my grandfather who gave me his SLR camera when I was 14 and who had a collection of National Geographic magazines. A major influence was seeing the 50 years Magnum exhibition at Musuem Folkwang, Essen – I suddenly realized that a photograph can convey far more than just the mere representation of « something ».
