I am particularly interested about youth in different parts of the world. I have completed reportages on the Tuareg rebelion in Mali / Mauritania, on the hip hop scene in Cuba and the latest one that I chose to present to you today is on the city of Buenaventura, in Colombia.
Buenaventura is Colombia’s principal trading port with about half of the country’s national products passing through its harbors. The city holds as well another impressive record: It has the highest homicide rate of Colombia with 187 murders for 2013 and that is without counting the hundreds of disappearances which are almost systematically murders. The victims are often tortured and dismembered alive in what is called casas de pique- literally chop houses for witchcraft beliefs common within the criminals from the pacific coast. More over this habit enables the perpetrators to insure their authority over a traumatized population.
