Raimondo Forte (Naples, 16/6/1974) is a photographer since many years. Among others, he did reportages about cataract surgery in Mali, mining in Bolivia, life conditions in Haiti, homemade fireworks in Guatemala slums. His projects are mainly due to his humanitarian aid activity as an ophthalmologist.
The refugee crisis represents a great humanitarian emergency and is changing the perspectives of the European Community, from the social and political point of view. I chose to document the presence of the refugees in Berlin in the daily life activities, in the metro, along the streets. A number of families with kids wander in the metro, continuously changing their place with several heavy bags that eventually represent their only belongings. But they also try to make new friendships and new habits. People here are trying to rebuild their lives from nothing as our ancestors did in the United States, in South America, and as many of us do nowadays (obviously in better conditions) when leaving to a foreign country seeking for a job or for personal reasons. Refugees cannot be considered strangers without all of us being considered strangers. We all are refugees in a way or another on this word.
