With the blessing of the head of the family I have spent two days with this small and vibrant community of poets, musicians, acrobats and dancers, who perform through the year in the city. The circus represents the legacy of the family, the arts are taught to the younger members and rehearsal is seen also like a moment to socialize and spend time together. Despite all the bias towards gipsies all around Europe, I found a community of talented people and a very close family which use the arts as a way to share love and creativity.
My name is Martina Albertazzi and I am an italian journalist based in Rome. Passionate about photography, about two years ago I decided to pursue more expertise in the field, to complement my reporting skills. My focus is on immigrant and ethnic groups and their efforts to keep their traditions alive while living in a foreign country. During my workshop in Paris, I tried to document the daily life of the gypsy community that run the Romanès Circus.
