I’m Astrid, living in Germany. I am not a professional photographer.
Photography is more to me than just a « hobby »-it helps me to stay in contact with myself (even while it is to be about documenting other, external subjects).
I’m into storytelling, passionate about talks, literature and movies, and whenever I find « staged-like » scenes on the street or elsewhere, I press the shutter button. Real moments on the street turn into « filmstills » – and all of us are actors or film directors.
I was more interested in scenic photography, and I thought I would not be good in classical portraiture-I didn’t even like the typical model-shooting-so this was a real challenge to me. I choose this workshop with Todd Hido because I love his work and especially his cinematic style.
The work with Todd Hido touched me and opened wider creative possibilities, encouraged to take the next step of development without having to leave/abandon the past.
(I still see the scenic approach in my portaits)
The title « Reflection » not only refers to the light, but also to inner reflection; with the aspect of asking whether it shows who you „really“ are (hint of the song « Reflection » of Mulan).
I learnt a lot. I started to like model-shooting and learnt much about it.
We also were very lucky to see Todd`s exhibition in Amsterdam and to get the whole process of presentation. Todd is a very encouraging and warm-hearted person, who gives and shares a lot and I also liked his assistant Marina a lot.
I am still very happy!
