This will be a hands on workshop with shooting sessions, individual assignments, daily group discussion and editing sessions.
You'll be expected to fully immerse yourself, take risks and push your boundaries in order to move forward into another level in your photography.
Day 1:
Portfolios reviews – Projections
A selection of photographs is reviewed for each participant and each one outlines his/her expectations for the workshop. Participants are also invited to show which of their photographs are they the most proud of and a selection of their favorite images in the history of photography.
Masterclass – Projections
Richard Dumas will spend time talking about his own work and the different projects and portraits he has worked on. He will share his photographic references with the group and explain the context while shooting his photographs.
At the end of the day, two-person teams are determined by random draw amongst participants, each team will have to photograph one another the following day.
Day 2:
Projection and group discussion
Each photographer selects 3 pictures of the previous day shoot.
Shooting sessions between participants inside the studio and outside
Each participant will shoot his own portraits inside and/or outside of the studio: they will be asked to photograph one another. After brief editing sessions throughout the day, participants will print their images and show what they’ve done to Richard Dumas and get feedback and improvements suggestions. Through the selection and discussion of their best images, the participants will work together with Richard Dumas towards building a personal portrait series and consequently developing their own photographic style.
Shooting sessions are mostly done independently by the participants without Richard Dumas but he may occasionally intervene to bring guidance throughout the shooting.
Day 3:
Projection and group discussion
Each photographer selects 3 pictures of the previous day shoot.
Shooting sessions with models inside the studio and outside
Each participant will shoot models who will be available. After brief editing sessions throughout the day, participants will print their images and show what they’ve done to Richard Dumas and get feedback and improvements suggestions. Through the selection and discussion of their best images, the participants will work together with Richard Dumas towards building a personal portrait series and consequently developing their own photographic style.
Shooting sessions are mostly done independently by the participants without Richard Dumas but he may occasionally intervene to bring guidance throughout the shooting.
Day 4:
Shooting sessions
Final portrait series editing/sequencing, find a series title and write artist statement
The final day is devoted to finalise the shooting, editing, sequencing and post-processing the portrait series. Participants are then invited to find a title for their series and write an artist statement. This set will be send to the photography mentor of the participants choice.
Final projection and group discussion.
Teaching language: English or french (depending on the audience).
