This workshop in full immersion with Claudine Doury aims at developping the aptitude of the participant to carry out a photography assignment in an institutional context. This experience will allow the participant to develop his/her capacity to produce a photographic work in a given location and throughout a given limited time period.
Claudine Doury is a french photographer who lives and works in Paris. After having been a photo editor in Paris for the “Gamma” Agency and the newspaper “Liberation” as well as for the agency “Contact Press Images” in New York, she became a freelance photographer. She is a member of the “Vu” agency and is represented by In Camera Gallery in Paris.
Her work addresses notions of memory and transition with an approach that is simultaneously artistic and documentary.
She has published 5 monographs:
“People of Siberia” (Le Seuil Editions) documents ways of life which are slowly disappearing.
“Artek, Summer in Crimea” (Editions La Martinière) captures collective changes in Russian society which is in upheaval, as well as the transformations of the young people in this old pioneer camp.
“Loulan Beauty” (Editions du Chêne) superimposes two visions of Central Asia: the end of the Soviet model and the old scenes that remain, immemorial, carried by young modern women who resemble Loulan Beauty, but 4,000 years older.
With “Sasha”(Editions Le Caillou Bleu), a piece of work about the loss of a childhood, these rituals are set in place, these moments of suspension, the intersection of all possibilities.
“L’Homme Nouveau” (Filigranes Editions).
She is about to publish a sixth book, Amour, with the publisher Chose Commune. Amour is the story of an investigation led during more than 30 years. It unfolds under the shape of a diary throughout different times. Started in 1991 on the Russian river banks, the photographer’s journey continues in 1997, then in 2018 with the series “A Siberian Odysea”.
Claudine Doury is successfully the winner of the Leica Oskar Barnack Award in 1999 and the World Press Photo Award in 2000 for her work on the Siberian People.
In 2004, she received the Niepce prize for all of her work.
En 2017, she receives the Photography Award of the prestigious Fine Arts Academy/Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière.
Her photographs are exhibited in France and abroad and are in private and public collections.
“Calling together ones desires and fears, digging and fetching one’s own voice. Learning to embody one’s own inner world by using the visible world.” Claudine Doury
“I had the opportunity to lead the workshop repeatedly with Claudine Doury and I was always struck by her huge generosity, her dynamism and her empathy towards each participant, without any exception.
Claudine Doury has the deep and sincere willingness to go through each participant’s motivations in order to encourage them to bring the best of themselves.
Her artist’s sensitivity is, very surprisingly, completely devoted to the precise understanding of the level and the personality of each participant. Once this understanding is acquired, she pulls the strings of their own creativity and the result is always assured.” Véronique Sutra, CEO Eyes in Progress
