I did a series of portraits with strong contrast which was the opposite of the usual images on the covers of fashion magazines — strong light, wrinkles, emotions. This series was awarded at the biannual Summer Portrait Festival in Bourbon-Lancy, Burgundy — France in 2014 and I interpreted this award as a sign indicating the way to follow. The workshop at Eyes in Progress was an opportunity to have immediate feedback from Richard Dumas on what I did. He helped me to get rid of the bad habits and conventional ideas. Now I can look differently at my pictures. Influenced by renowned photographers such as Yousouf Karsh, Patrick Swirc or Richard Dumas, I want to explore portrait photography much further in order to define my own signature following my sensibility. Emotions first, words after.
To keep a long story short, I practiced different techniques and genres in photography such as news, sports and documentary for a few years. The manager of Corridor Elephant editions who published an ebook of my portfolio said that my pictures are balanced between sensibility and reporting. And what I keep in this quote is the word sensibility which is what defines my personality. Working with digital and film, I really like portrait photography and especially in black & white.
