Docked lives

by Jan Guth (Luxembourg)

Docked Lives is a photographic series exploring the human presence along Marseille’s ferry terminal, industrial port, and the Vieux-Port. Shot over the course of a few hours in May 2025, the sixteen images capture a city in transit — where ferries come and go, workers repair ships, and locals and travellers move through shared space. These glimpses reflect a narrative of labour, pause, and passage in a port city that is both a gateway and a home. By blending candid scenes with environmental portraits, Docked Lives invites viewers to look beyond motion and into the spaces where lives briefly anchor. It tells the story of Marseille not through its skyline, but through the people who give the harbour its rhythm.
