Elise Toïdé grew up in the South of France, where as a teenager she began to photograph her friends and travels on film.
At the age of 24, she moved to New York and immersed herself in the streets of Brooklyn, while studying documentary photography at the ICP. She nourishes her practice with the history of American photography.
Returning to Paris in 2010, she pursues her work as an author, exploring themes of time, intimacy and vulnerability, particularly in adolescence, a period of great metamorphosis.
She seeks to capture doubts, dreams and boredom, capturing moments of latency where intranquillity and disarray rub shoulders with lightness.
Today, as an extension of her personal practice, Elise Toïdé carries out commissioned work in various fields, for institutions such as the Rodin Museum, the Manufacture de Sèvres and fashion designers, in particular a long-term collaboration with Yohji Yamamoto.
She also produces portraits and documentaries for the cultural press (M Le Monde, Les Inrocks, i-D, T Magazine, AD Magazine, The Wire…).
To date, she has published two books with Editions Eyd Paris: Il fera longtemps clair ce soir in 2019 and Les Vagues in 2022.
