Although initially having studied political science and environmental issues, she has been interested in photography since adolescence. In 2011, she completed a photography diploma at Concordia University in Montreal and then in Paris at Ecole Estienne in 2014.
She divides her time between personal documentary work, commissioned work and lifestyle photography. Her themes of interest include personal and cultural identity, family ties, migration, and environmental impact stories.
She approaches these themes from a social angle. Her work fits into subjective documentary photography, or as it is also called, creative documentary photography.
For this series of portraits, I wanted to move away from the corporate and “pretty” portrait. Keeping the camera on my subject long enough for them to stop posing, to stop thinking about their image, and the smile that can hide everything. This series brings out an intensity and presence specific to each subject. I chose black and white to focus on the essential and work on strong contrasts.
