It may seem a chaos , a labyrinth of passages and mountains of clothes. Here there are no washing machines or dryers, everything is manual. It is very hard to see as children, adults and seniors share hard work, in full sun, without timetables and for a miserable salary. But everybody feels very proud of their work and are very grateful that someone cares about and tell their daily live with pictures.
My name is Angel Carbonell, I’m from Barcelona and I’m freelance photographer. Basically I work in commercial photography, editorial, press, portrait, fashion and when I have time, personal projects. Near Mahalaxmi Station, in Mumbai, there is Dhobi Ghat, one of the world’s largest laundries in the world. Daily tons of clothing are washed, dried and ironed for hotels, factories, hospitals and schools without interruption.
Portfolio from the Photographie Narrative workshop with J-E Atwood, October 2012.
