
ANDREAS J. HIRSCH
Independent curator, writer and photographer
Andreas J. Hirsch is a photographic artist, author and curator. His writings include books on Pablo Picasso, Tina Modotti, Friedensreich Hundertwasser and HR Giger as well as “Creating the Future – A Brief History of Ars Electronica 1979–2019” and the children’s book “Florian Featherlight and the Quest for the Magic Pearl.”
As curator of Kunst Haus Wien from 2009 to 2014 he was responsible for large monographic exhibitions of photography including Tina Modotti, René Burri, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Elliott Erwitt, Linda McCartney and Andreas H. Bitesnich.
The series “THE NOCTURNES OF DAY” (2014), the portrait-project “LOVE OVER HATE – The Art of Peace” (2016-2018), the project “RE-READING THE CITY – Views of the Posturban Condition,” which was presented at Ars Electronica Festival 2015 and the exhibition “HAVE YOU SEEN THIS? – A Photographic Odyssey through Salzburg” in the Traklhaus on the Salzburg Fortress in 2019 are part of his photographic oeuvre.
He served on numerous juries and reviewing panels including Prix Ars Electronica and Eyes On Month of Photography Vienna.
