Between Four Tombs

by Harriet Dedman (United Kingdom)

“Every citizen has the right to be buried, regardless of race or religion” – Napoleon
Since 1804, 1 million people have been buried at the Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris. Some have remained. Some have been removed. Established by Napoleon in the infancy of his regime, the cemetery was created to enfranchise all in death, regardless of social strata in life. Populated by the creative talents of literature, music and art, Père Lachaise celebrates de l’arte funéraire.

Personal meeting with ELISABETH BIONDI,
Visuals Editor and Independent Curator

“I have loved every minute of the Eyes in Progress experience, from 4 excellent and thorough days in Paris with Stefano de Luigi, through to the extensive review by Elisabeth Biondi in New York. I have been pushed and challenged, and my photography has definitely taken a new direction. Going forward I am now going to take that new style through into some deeper stories and projects. I hope to connect with Elisabeth Biondi on those images at a later date. The Eyes in Progress team have been supportive, creative and very hands on. Their workshops come highly recommended.”
