I have been interested for several years now into the sexual division of the social world and its power relationships. What are building mechanisms – the personal experiences, education, social reproductions – governing our relations to the categories of “female” and “male” ? How to better understand them to try to deconstruct them ? In this work, I tried to explore the transition from one to another in different ways.
People photographed as part of the series “Trans’verses” are individuals who refused, at one time or another in their life, the law assigned by normative society and the dominant mentalities in diverting the gender of its clear path to taking back power on their bodies. Triptychs present people facing the camera and in a deliberately intense lighting. The bottom consists of a black canvas that vividly highlights the features and shapes of the face. The model poses initially standing, eyes facing the camera and shirtless (not required) sitting on a chair. I ask them to tell me about their personal developpment and take several series of photos of their hands as they speak. This is the relation of the subject to his body, and the photographer who is interrogated.
My last work called “On the road, an FtM story” was conceived as a documentary storytelling. T. is a friend, he is part of my life and that is the reason why I wanted to write his story in a reality rooted in everyday life.
